Booking a rental car reservation with Tropical Rentals.

Q: If I have to cancel my reservation because of a change of plans, do I have to pay a cancellation fee?
A: No, as long as you give us at least three (3) business days, prior to the delivery date.

Q: What types of payment do you accept?
A: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and Cash (USD or XCD – EC DOLLARS) Current Exchange Rate: US$1.00 = EC$2.70 Eastern Caribbean Dollar. When paying in cash, a USD $1,000 deposit is required.

Q: Do I need to have a credit card to rent a vehicle?
A: Yes. Our preference is to have a credit card as this acts as a hold against our asset (the vehicle) that we are renting to you.

Q: Can I rent a vehicle even if I do not have a credit card?
A: Yes, but we require a cash deposit of $1,000 US dollars which will be returned to you at the end of the rental period as long as the vehicle is returned in the same condition as rented to you.

Q: Since I don't have to give you my credit card information at the time of the booking, how do I know that you are really holding this reservation for me?
A: You will receive a confirmation from the phone agent or by email after we place the reservation for you.

Q: What do you mean exactly by "reservations are subject to availability"? Does it mean that, when I pick up the car, I may get a different car, because you are sold out of the car I reserved?
A: It means that, when you get a price quote from us, we don't know at that moment if that exact car is available. It is only after you request to confirm the quote/vehicle that we place the reservation and book the vehicle. If the vehicle you want is NOT be available, we will discuss other options with you before confirming the booking. If your vehicle is not available at pick-up time, you will get a similar vehicle or an upgrade at no additional charge.

Q: Where do we pick up the car at the Airport?
A: After you get through the Customs Department you will be directed outside by airport staff. Our agent will be waiting for you when you come outside to the area where everyone waits for arriving passengers. He or she will be holding up a “Tropical Rentals” sign. They will greet you, complete the necessary paperwork and take you to the vehicle which will be parked at the airport.

Q: Do you offer pick-up and drop off at my hotel?
A: Yes. We pick-up and drop off anywhere on the island, at no extra cost. We have directions to most of the private villas on the island. If we have not been to your location before we will arrange to get directions before you arrive to be able to deliver the vehicle to you there.

Q: Do you pick-up and drop off to Cruise Ship clients?
A: Yes we do. We meet clients at the port on the Heritage Quay dock with the vehicle. You do not have to come back to our office to get the vehicle. The agent will be able to complete the entire transaction at the port.  

Q: Does it cost extra to drop the car off at a different location from where we picked it up?
A: No. The vehicle can be delivered to one location and picked up from a totally different location at no additional charge.

Q: Are there any additional charges beside the price stated in the confirmation email?
A: Once the car is confirmed, we send you a confirmation email which contains the final price. This price is not going to change, unless you purchase additional services or upgrades.

Q: Do you sell the Temporary License that is required to drive in Antigua.
A: Yes. The Antiguan government requires that you purchase a temporary license to drive here. We pre-purchase these licenses from the Antigua & Barbuda Transport Board and have them available at the time of the rental for your convenience at no additional charge. This avoids you having to go to a police station to purchase one. We will need to see your valid license from your country of residence and copy some information off of it onto the Temporary license to issue you the Temporary License. These licenses currently cost US$20 or EC$50.

Q: Who is responsible if the vehicle gets damaged?
A: As in any country, a renter is responsible to bring the vehicle back in the same condition as it was rented or additional charges will apply. This is negated only by the terms and conditions of any OPTIONAL assurance that you may purchase as part of our LDW/CDW (Loss Damage Waiver/Collision Damage Waiver) agreement. Please read our "Terms & Conditions" for further details.

Q: Do I need additional Insurance?
A: We leave this decision to clients. It is usually based on your level of comfort with our roads and road systems. This is something you have to determine by talking to your car insurance company or your credit card company. Some clients sign up for our LDW agreement, some clients rent with a credit card that they know will offer vehicle rental accident/loss coverage, some clients purchase additional travel insurance in their country which covers their rental vehicle while on vacation. Please note that you cannot double up. If you rent with a credit card that offers you coverage and still take our LDW in the event of an accident the credit card company will ask you if you took the LDW/CDW from the rental company. In most cases if you say “yes” they will not cover you and you cannot make any claims with them. Please know this.
